Got to sleep late, Phanodorm. Drank Coffee. Wrote a page and was stimulated. Outing to the beach with the Huxleys, the weather clearing rapidly and becoming warmer, where we got out and took a rather long walk along the glistening blue-and-white ocean at ebb tide. Many condoms on the beach. I did not see them, but Mrs. Huxley pointed them out to Katia. – Lunch in Palos Verdes Estate. Lovely view of the wide bay from the terrace. Soup, roast chicken (tough), ice-cream cake, and coffee. Spoke more English the usual. Came back at around three. Had tea at home after four. Colin brought a new report on negotiations with Goldwyn. Did better at expressing my gratitude to him. Rested a while. Went to the office of a woman notary concerning the extension of our visitors’ visa. Signatures. While we were out Erika arranged for our return trip via Chicago, Cleveland, and Toronto with thte assistant at the agency. – Tea with the ladies. – Dinner at home. Then with Edwin Knopf’s assistant to the MGM studios for a private screening of Night Must Fall, an excellen film with Robert Montgomery, who represents a good psychological type and has distinctly Joseph-like moments. Quite interested. – At home with Colin, who leaves tomorrow, pleased with what has been accomplished. Said good-bye to hi until New York.
