BTW: I took the liberty of moving the sofa against the back wall thinking there were going to be more people in the photo...Otherwise you can get right up to the photographs...Considering that the gallery doubles as a cafe, its a great set-up (the photos are of a side room, there is a main central area and alcove with a small bar and outside patio) and i.m.h.o. being able to have a beer or coffee really enhances the exhibition experience (its hard to sit in a white cube gallery for very long, well in most cases, right?)

Juan Carlo took me to Photocafe....(I'll write a bit more later about Juan Carlos and about the exhibit I'm crashing :p)

President Zelaya dismisses General Romeo Vasquez

In a radio and television chain, last night President Manuel Zelaya dismissed the head of the Joint Staff, Romeo Vasquez Velasquez, for refusing to accompany with Armed Forces' logistics the public opinion poll of Sunday, which has been declared illegal by the judiciary, because it seeks to subvert the constitutional order.

I'll write more about Mrs. Antonia Velasquez soon...she approached me as I was walking by (I just happened to have my camera in my hand) wanting a photo of herself in front of her "champita," so that she could take the photograph to the Mayor or to the President in order to get some help.... She told me that she had been displaced by the earthquake back in 2000; you can see the bare area across the valley on the tops of the hills where the earthquake caused a massive mudslide burying alive about 800 people...

My Dutch Alcoholic Uncle...

...well, he sounded like he was from the Netherlands ;)
jardines del volcan ciudad merliot el salvador
We went to see him at my grandmother's house where he lives; she spends most of the year in the USA.

Walking back to the main avenue I spotted him...

This is his, "guardian dog," her head just out of frame, she was smiling or panting for water; he has been known to sell puppies for beer money...but really its amazing he's always had very loyal dogs...there must be some kinda connection...when he came to the USA about ten years ago, my Chocolate lab took to him! Really! "Bud" short for Budwieser - I'm not kidding he kinda ignored me and wanted to hang out with my uncle (related side story) I adopted him off the street, he must have been about a year old, I had seen him wandering and one day he showed up at this beer garden where I used to work...maybe there is a kinship of sort;)

He was joking to his friend - he thought I was (like) Paparazzi (or something)...

Update: Feeling less guilty of casting him in a negative light I´ve reposted this having taken some ¨sober¨pictures of him in the past few days...

Kid, portrait, I owe him a photograph....

portrait santa tecla el salvador los cipreses, retrato
...and I told him he could pick it up in a couple weeks, just down the street where my cousin has his upholstery repair shop; I'll ask my cousin to stick a paper copy (just thought of that) up on the wall and the kid will be able to see it as he walks to school...

BTW this kid was kinda intense, I was buying some chips for my son at a "house window type of store" and he asked me for money and that he needed it for school, so perhaps his intensity comes from somewhere else??? I don't know - or maybe he was just annoyed?

Autoclave-I'll Take you Down

Thanks for the vid "futureofwhat" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KpNO6jw-tQ

"Christina Billotte and Melissa Berkoff initially began playing together in a Washington, DC band called Hazmat in 1989, but then joined up with Nikki Chapman and Mary Timony to form Autoclave. Autoclave released a 7" on the "DisKord" label, a joint effort between Dischord and Olympia, Washington's K Records. The band's second release was a posthumous 10" released on Christina's label, Mira Records. After the band split up, the members went off in different directions. Nikki went to Olympia, Melissa headed to New Orleans, Mary went to Boston (where she would form Helium) and Christina stayed in DC and went on to form Slant 6, Quix-o-tic and The Casual Dots. Autoclave was a band that defied classification and context, and their music was unique and lasting enough that Dischord decided to release a discography CD in 1997.
